5 Artificial Turf Maintenance Tips

Looking to trade in those countless hours spent mowing the lawn and hundreds of dollars put towards the water bill? Many homeowners are making the switch to artificial turf simply for the fact that it stays green all year round!

TurfHub synthetic grass is backed by a 15-year warranty, but if maintained properly, it can last you so many more years! Here are 5 simple care and maintenance tips to follow to ensure your investment remains plush for years to come.

1. Use a Turf Rake

turf rake

A turf rake contains stiff bristles and can be used to remove dust, dirt, leaves, and any other debris that have settled on your turf. It is also a great tool to use to fluff the turf back up after something or someone laid on it for a period of time. Use your rake and brush against the grain to stand the blades back upright. Regularly grooming your turf will prevent matting and keep the infill from compacting.

2. Invest in a Leaf Blower

A leaf blower is another great tool to use on your artificial turf. Similar to a rake, a leaf blower will also remove any dust or dirt off the top of your turf. It is also a great tool if you or a neighbor have large trees around that constantly drop leaves.

Be careful not to blow too hard and directly downwards as the infill should remain in place. Also, make sure to not place the leaf blower down directly onto the turf once finished – you don’t want to melt your turf!

3. Be Cautious with Hot Objects

Metal and plastic objects such as trampolines, plastic slides, fences, and anything that reflects heat can melt your turf if placed directly on or near your synthetic grass. After all, artificial turf is plastic and melts under high temperatures and reflections.

4. Pets and Turf

Synthetic turf is 100% pet safe and approved for your furry family members. Envirofill is the ideal infill to use as it contains Microban® technology, preventing the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew that can cause stains, odors, and product deterioration.

In addition, we recommend using a cleaning solution such as K9Zap that contains live liquid enzymes that will eliminate dirt, germs, bacterial, and odors naturally. The more dogs there are the bigger they get, the more often you will need to spray your turf.

5. Cleaning up Spills

We don’t live in a perfect world and accidents will happen. We want you to enjoy your turf to the fullest and not worry about staining of any sort. TurfHub synthetic grass is stain resistant and many spills can easily be washed away with a bit of water. For those tougher stains, use a mild soap with lukewarm water or use equal parts vinegar and water to scrub it out. The faster you tend to a spill or stain the better.
